What do high school baseball coaches look for?
I am a junior and I have played baseball for 10 years. I love the sport and everything about it. I have never tried out for the high school team and I am planning on doing so this year. I don't know if starting as a junior is a bad thing and if it is what can I do to show the coaches I really want a chance?

- they look for talent so they can win and if your not a great power hitter you need to be good in a field and have speed and hit singles
- they look for many things.... mainly, your speed and agility, throwing strengh and ability, and your hitting/catching abilities....
- talent drive willingness
- HItting is the key - if you can hit... they will find a spot for you. Believe me - offense is the key Next to hitting - pitching is always a plus. they also look for versatility - if you play where they tell you to without attitude - ie... if you are a shortstop but they put you in the outfield... don't act out, just do it!
- Well, i don't know what these other guys are talking about where i'm from they look for the guys with the parents who upper class...
- I played High School ball and skipped my freshman year. Play hard, do what your supposed to do at your position. Follow all instructions, and the rest will take care of itself. I rode bench senior year of varsity as a pinch runner and took advantage of those opportunities. However I found a summer league and gained the confidence to try out for Ohio State in my sophomore year. The best advice I got was from my summer coach, "Just play your hardest, when you play with people better than you, your talent will rise to match yours, it just happens" I got cut from Ohio State but so did 2 players that had been drafted to MLB. I also struck out the Club Baseball Captain at the tryout and made him look silly. Play hard and be confident in yourself, but don't be cocky. Coaches look for determination, hard workers, and TEAM PLAYERS!
- really it all depends on the coach. a good coach will look for a guy with potential and a guy who is coachable...and they look for talent as well, basically if you can hit you will play, they will find a spot for you if you can hit. im the varsity catcher on my high school team and i have been since i was a freshman (im now a junior this year). i like to watch what my coach watches for and i try to become that so i dont lose my starting spot. All and all, if you can hit, you will play...lol
